Feng Shui

Feng Shui the chinese art of placement has been practiced for thousands of years. It is often characterized by a minimalist appearance, because of its emphasis on de-cluttering, but its principles are compatible with virtually any style of architecture or interior design.
The practice of Feng Shui emphasizes the Person Place Connection and offers an opportunity  for people to live in harmony with their environment. To apply Feng Shui you need an understanding of the Chinese concepts of Ch'i (energy), Yin and Yang, and the Five Elements.

Feng Shui principles are expressed through design. One example is the use of the circle to signify balance, harmony, and community.

Feng Shui correlates health, wealth and happiness with how we design and decorate our home and work environments. Literally, it means wind and water and focuses on the seen and the unseen.

The Chinese use Feng Shui to determine the correct place of all things, here in our Western World , we usually refer to it as “The Feel of a Place”.

  Dear Mary Dennis,

What a wonderful experience we have just concluded while remodeling a thirty-year-old apartment from the deck to the ceiling...we never really thought about the Art of Placement, which has brought such balance and enhancement to the environment in the apartment...to see the joy and happiness this apartment has brought to my sister...and her family has made all our efforts really worthwhile...we are all believers thanks to your efforts.

OVERVIEW OF FENG SHUI PROJECT

This project included the Feng Shui Design of the interior and then the final steps of adding curb appeal to the entrance of the home: As you approached this house, the door and entrance left much to be desired. There was no sense of invitation and the windows and front door were all transparent, allowing visitors to see in immediately, and residents to feel uneasy.

The Front Door in Feng Shui is where Chi, (energy) enters the space. It is important that energy enters without obstruction and gently meanders and stays within. In this first set of pictures, you view the uninviting front door and the foyer, where a open stair well is seen, the energy escaping through the stair spindles. As you will notice, the stair case wall was sheet rocked and made solid, to better contain the energy and to give a solid wall of support to all who enter.

A new front door with a with stained glass was purchased and installed, giving a feeling of traditional elegance, and privacy. Sheer drapery was applied to the side windows, and a pair of Potted Topiaries were placed as guardians.

Looking out from the front door , an empty planter introduced the walkway.

A water element in the front of any home  is considered auspicious in the traditions of Feng Shui –and this was a perfect opportunity to add a low maintenance fountain with lush vegetation.

As you can see the influence of Feng Shui Design, enhanced and enriched this once bland, non supportive landscape
